Don't Call Me Sentimental

But he's got me binging on Taylor Swift and losing sleep. This is not necessarily a bad thing.

~This is me praying that
This was the very first page
Not where the storyline ends~

What is Sexy?- A Man in a Nice Pair of Sunglasses

As Don Henley and later, The Ataris, once sang,

But I can see you-
Your brown skin shinin' in the sun
You got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby
And I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

Nothing says "summer love that will last forever" like the song, Boys of Summer. And as it is the prime of summer, its time to talk about my favorite (and sexiest) summer accessory for guys, sunglasses. Maybe its the fact that you can't see exactly what they're thinking that makes sunglasses appealing, or maybe it just that you aren't faced with a guy that has the ever-awkward "squinty eyes syndrome." If I had to make a final reasoning for sunglasses, its that it just makes a guy look badass cool, and usually in a retro mid-20th century way. But there also must be a delicate balance of checking one's attitude, as to not come off as a complete tool. Check out some examples of men that make sunglasses sexier than any cabana boy.

Gavin DeGraw sports some particularly delicious Ranban Wayfarers in his new "Not Over You" music video. He sits around, eating dinner for one, playing his piano, and staring longingly out the window, eventually taking to the streets in some dashing sunglasses. What makes his torture even sexier? The slick 50's combo of the sunglasses and hat.

As philandering 60's ad executive Don Draper, John Hamm carries off the Aviators with flawless style. I believe look this was from a rare scene where he took his kids out to the park for the afternoon, making the infamous Mr. Draper even more hot dad -worthy.

Even in a promotional photo for Full house, circa 1989/1990, John Stamos is rocking sunglasses as Uncle Jesse. And I must proclaim, "long live the sexiness of John Stamos!" BTW, he looked very good in person when I saw him!

For a guy that spent almost a decade playing a pale-faced vampire, David Boreanez makes sunglasses look good. He's worn a few silly pairs or two over the years, but he usually enhances his sexy-factor by 200 percent by adding sunglasses. Especially when he's wearing them on BONES with a well-pressed suit. Sunglasses and a smile make a lethally sexy combination!

As an arbiter of cool (or uncool as some Maysayers say), John Mayer knows his accessories. He's got a collection of hundreds of watches, and I suspect many types of sunglasses too. This is one of my top favorite Mayer in sunglasses photos. Yes, I have more than one favorite. He's wearing sunglasses and playing a guitar in the other photo. There's also one of him wearing an Armani suit. Don't judge me!

But some people, no matter how much coolness they ooze, will never be sexy in sunglasses. Sorry Ringo, but this just doesn't do it for me.

Songs That Make My Bitter Heart Fuzzy: Spanish/Latino Edition

So despite my sciency inclinations, I was a Spanish minor in college. And I will attest that Spanish is a romantic language. No seriously. Gomez Adams was on to something with Morticia and the arm and the “Querida.”

It is SO true in real life [and I can say that with certainty of statistical significance].

Thus, for my second little music review, I’ve decided to go with some of my favorite sexy/adorable/romantic Spanish songs. And no, this isn’t your Enrique Iglesias/Shakira/Pitbull. That’s not to deny there awesome, but maybe expose you to something new!

Even if you don’t understand the language (or are too lazy to pull up Google translate), these songs are undeniably awesome.

So let’s get it started with the…

ADORABLE

Sie7e – Tengo Tu Love

I mean, who would ever thought the worlds most adorable love song would include name drops of Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey. An ode to being happy with the one your with, whether they can afford a hot tub filled with Avian water or not. This song has an undeniable beach-y feel, so if you love the likes of Jason Mraz or Jack Johnson, you’ll love this.

And dude does a cover of Don’t Worry Be Happy. I mean, what’s not to LOVE!

SEXY

Joey Montana – Tus Ojos No Me Ven

Ok given my last article, maybe I have a thing for men with the last name Montana. But this reggaeton song is fantastic. Joey sings to a woman whose so set on a man who treats her like crap, she can’t see him standing right in front of her. Good for a workout song, and for taking out your anger when the one you love chooses to ignore you. And the beat is SO friggen hot!

ROMANTIC

Taxi AmarilloSi Te Amo

Translation: “If I love you.” ‘Nuff said.

Let the swooning ensue.

On Love, In Sadness

First of all, this blog post title comes from the wonderful Mr. Jason Mraz. It was chosen because of a recent conversation Java and I had where we were trying to decipher the lyrics. I thought the chorus talked about, "Love is a riddle madness"
and she thought it was, "Love is a bitter madness."
Here's the shocker: its neither. Mr. Mraz says,"Love is a brittle madness." Indeed, love is quite the brittle madness.

So, back to what this post is about: relationships. Shocker! After spending virtually an entire weekend with plenty (at lead 7 or 8) totally adorable and happy friend couples (love you guys), I've been pausing for some serious reflections on past relationships and what I've learned from them. Here it goes:

What I learned from past relationships (or sometimes lack thereof):

1. Sometimes you can't force yourself to feel more about someone.
(AKA- the reason things don't always work out when you move from a friendship to a relationship.) And although you feel awful for it, after some trying, its time to be honest.

1a. HONESTY IS IMPORTANT
to be honest to yourself, and your significant other, your friends...

For instance: if you promise to quit your occasional nasty smotking habit because your girlfriend thinks its gross (IT WAS), don't tell her its done and get caught by her sitting outside smoking, alone, under a tree, like you don't have a care in the world. This is how people lost trust in you. And if you are caught, don't say things like, "Yeah, well I'm gonna stop soon. Why are you mad at me?"

HONESTY Point two: THE MAYBE FACTOR
If you don't like someone, don't string them along. Its going to make things worse. Feelings always get involved. And if you think you might be able to work things out later (not like, oh after I date someone else later), then tell them. Give them the option to say "No I don't want to be put on your shelf."

HONESTY Point three: having 'the talk'
Now the talk has various stages- from "what does this kiss mean" to "do we have a future together," but whatever it is, the more you put it off, the worse the answer will be.

2. You can't change someone that doesn't want to be changed.
Duh...... Its a hard truth to learn. But someone who makes a promise and continually fails is not going to change on their own accord.

3. Its noble to want to be friends after a breakup...
.... but it takes time to get there, if ever. Things will never be the same. Sometimes its weird to not have that close connection with someone who sued to be a part of your life, but eventually it gets easier.

4. If you really want to see the person, you will find a way to see them,
If you're like eh, whatevs, I don't need to see you now, or tomorrow, but how about next week?....then you're probably not that into him. And vice versa.
If you want to race home from work to see their dog enter a talent show, then you really do care.

5. Its not all flowers and candy.
Trust me, I really like flowers and candy. But a smiley face text after a crappy day can mean even more. And soemtimes watvching a movie in is nicer than going out for a fancy dinner. READ ME: Fancy dinners should still happen on occasion.

6. Guys have feelings. Sometimes, a lot of feelings.
And yes, they usually have trouble expressing them. And sometimes, they express too much. Well we're all human. It's kinda cute, as long as they don't start sobbing. Nothing kills your feelings for a dude like hearing him complain like hes having his man period.

7. "Lets be friends" has different gender meanings.
see the binary scale

8. No matter how much you talk about (sports scores, Vin Disel movies, cars, wrestling, anything that makes people covered in mud, episodes of jackass).... I will never care.
Sorry dude, that's why you have friends. I will respect this and not tell you everything about Grey's Anatomy, the amazing shoe sale I went to, my concern for the Kardashian family's well being, with the exception of gushing about the pretty doctor men.

Now some of this knowledge seems slightly on the negative side (hey I'm speaking the truth), so the last two are some positive things I've learned.

9. If you find someone who can tolerate you (AKA- they don't think you're a complete basket case/princess/jock/brain/screwup- yes, I just referenced Breakfast Club), hang on to them dearly. Because seeing my cute happy friends, there are people like that out there. That think your quirks are funny, and high five your "thats what she said" jokes.

10. PDA is a necessity for a healthy relationship (TASTEFUL PDA)
So you don't have to suck someone's face in a public forum... that's gross. But sometimes an arm around your shoulder or a quick kiss is nice. It reinforces two things- the person is not trying to hide your relationship) and it shows happiness. It makes you happy to show people that you have a relationship and you tolerate each other in a loving way.

Love or Something Like It?

I make no excuses. I'm not a romantic. I'm not big on lovey dovey crap. But this song gives me faith that something might be out there for all of us. Every time I listen to it, I get chills (and considering it's moved up to fourth most played song on my ipod in 24 hours, that's a lot of chills). Sara Ramirez packs this song full of power, angst, love- the whole nine yards. The joy on her face as she sings.

The complete package.

Check "first dance" off my wedding to do list.

Taylor Swift Explained to Boys

Hi guys,

You don't get Taylor Swift. You may think she's hot, but you do not get her music. You are puzzled why girls like songs like "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story."Well this is your lucky day, because I'm gonna drop some knowledge. Here is a line-by-line explanation of T.Swift's "Sparks Fly." See Tay Tay's words in red and my explanations in asterisks.

The way you move is like a full-on rainstorm,
* You're a force to be reckoned with*
And I'm a house of cards.
* And you knock (sweep) me off my feet *
You're the kind of reckless that keeps me running,

* Your boy moodiness can turn me off sometimes*
But I kinda know that I won't get far.

* But at the end of the day, you do one adorable thing and I'm hooked.*

And you stood there in front of me,
* How could we be so close and you won't touch me? *
Just close enough to touch.
* Please touch me. I do not have cooties.*
Close enough to hope you couldn't see what I was thinking of-

* This is crazy. I'm going to have to touch you.*

Drop everything now.
* Stop playing video games for like five minutes*
Meet me in the pouring rain,

* Note: Kissing in the rain is hot*
Kiss me on the sidewalk,

* So kiss me already, I'm not a nun.*
Take away the pain.

* I'm in pain because you will not kiss me*
'Cause I see Sparks Fly,
* I dream about you at night*
Whenever you smile.
* So stop torturing me and just kiss me*

Get me with those green eyes baby, as the lights go down,

* Your eyes are beautiful, dazzling even*
Give me something that will haunt me when you're not around.

* I will stare at my Edward Cullen poster and imagine you staring back at me with that intensity*
'Cause I see Sparks Fly,
* There is something magic between us, like Edward and Bella*
Whenever you

* So stop acting weird and boy-ish*
Smile.
*And man up, 'cause you're torturing me.*

My mind forgets to remind me
,
* I secretly think you secretly enjoy torturing me*
You're a bad idea.
* You have this mystery bad boy thing down waaaaay too well*
You touch me once and it's really something,

* You touched me! Praise the Lord.*
You find I'm even better than you imagined I would be.
* And you like cuddling with me, so don't stop.*

I'm on my guard for the rest of the world,
* I try to be strong for everyone*
But with you, I know its no good.

* But once in a while, its nice to vent to you about all the crap.*
And I could wait patiently, but I really wish you would-
* I'm waiting for you to get over a) you ex, b) your friend's teasing, c) your move/job/grandma's death - so we can be together.*

Drop everything now.
* But I'm not waiting forever.*
Meet me in the pouring rain,

* You will never understand why the rain is sexy*
Kiss me on the sidewalk,

* But I will make you watch 'The Notebook' until you give up fighting the point*
Take away the pain.

* I wanna be with you*
'Cause I see Sparks Fly,
*Although sometimes I wonder if I'm mentally unbalanced for thinking so*
Whenever you smile.

* You look at me and I sometimes turn into a third grader- giggles, running away etc..*

Get me with those green eyes baby as the lights go down,
* I've caught you staring at me longingly, don't lie*
Give me something that will haunt me when you're not around.
* And I think I've been on your mind too even if you don't say it.*
'Cause I see Sparks Fly,
* Because we belong together like Meredith and McDreamy,*
Whenever you
Smile.
*And I really don't care if you won't watch Greys. You're missing on on scoring ,major points with me though.*

I run my fingers through your hair,
* I just want to make out with you*
And watch the lights go wild.

* And you will enjoy it too.*
Just keep on keeping your eyes on me,
*Eye contact is scary,*
It's just strong enough to make you feel right.
* But I feel warm fuzzies when you look into my eyes.*

Lead me up the staircase,

*You're finally getting my point*
Won't you whisper soft and slow-

* Whispering sweet nothings is sexy.*
"I'm captivated by you baby,
like a firework show."
* This quote is a "panty dropper." Use it when you mean it. Captivate is a magical word.*

Drop everything now.
* Drop your pants.*
Meet me in the pouring rain,
*Seriously, if you can't seal the deal now with some romance, I feel sorry for you*
Kiss me on the sidewalk,

* Kiss me*
Take away the pain.
* Yes, that's better. No more pain ans secret longing.*
'Cause I see Sparks Fly,
* Cause I see you holding me tonight*
Whenever you smile.

* And maybe every night if you play your cards right.*

Get me with those green eyes, baby as the lights go down,

* I like talking to you before I fall asleep.*
Give me something that will haunt me when you're not around.
* And when you're not there, I'm going to miss you*
'Cause I see Sparks Fly, Whenever you smile.
*Because I am totally falling in love with you*

Real Men Sing About Their Love

The Spice Girls empowered us with the relationship-starting anthem, "Wannabe." So we expect the men folk to get it together. Here are 6 men that make it blatantly clear in their music they want to be your man.

6. Love Soon ~ John Mayer
chorus:
so come and face it
You can cross the line whenever you want to
I'm calling it love soon
close your mind and waste some time if you have to
I'm calling it love soon
it's not about you now
it's what we are

5. I'm Yours ~ Jason Mraz
chorus:
I won't hesitate no more, no more,
It cannot wait, I'm sure.
There's no need to complicate
,
Our time is short,
This is our fate,
I'm yours.

4. I'm Your Man ~ Michael Buble
chorus:
And I'd fall at your feet,
And I'd howl at your beauty,
Like a dog in heat.
And I'd claw at your heart,
And I'd tear at your sheet,
I'd say please, please,
I'm your man.

3. Our Story ~ Ryan Cabrera
chorus:
Its a good day for me,
Its a good day,
To take a chance and let you in to see,
Exactly who I am,
and if you understand me,

And if you can roll with it,
I will be your man.

2. Your Man ~ Josh Turner
chorus:
Baby lock the door and turn the lights down low,
Put some music on that's soft and slow,
Baby we ain't got no place to go.
I hope you understand.

I've been thinking 'bout this all day long,
Never felt a feeling quite this strong,
I can't believe how much it turns me on,
Just to be your man.

1. I'll Be Your Man ~ James Blunt
chorus:
Slide over here let your hands feel the way,
There’s no better method to communicate.
Girl stop your talking words just get in the way,
I’ll be your man.

So baby come over from the end of the sofa.
I’ll be your man, I’ll be your man!
